Error 1328

While attempting to install service pack 1 for Office XP
Pro 2002, I received an error stating that the file
C:\CONFIG.MSI\PT1C.TMP could not be updated. The error
message goes on to say that this file could have been
updated in some other manner. The bottom line ... I have
to cancel the installation.

I checked the hard drive and their is no folder named
Config.msi and (obviously) no file named PT1C.tmp.

How do you get around this bug?

Try this workaround:
I have used both the SP1 and SP2 workarounds and they
worked like a charm. I hope you'll find them helpful
too. The instructions may look daunting but they are
really easy to follow if you print them out first.
