Error 1601 (0x641)

Ok, I have installed this a couple of times so that I can test the new Groove
software and on the 3rd and final system I encountered a problem. On first
install it went to what looked like 99% said it couldn't continue without
closing an unnamed process. try all options (abort, retry and ignore)
finally on ignore it cancelled the install and rolledback all the install.

tried to install a couple times more in a diagnostic start-up mode (from
msconfig) and found error 1601 in was causing all the future installs to
close. All the other logs said the installation was cancelled by user or
'unnamed program'.

Please help.

Hi J.R.,

Is it Office 2007 Professional or MS Office Groove 2007 you're having this problem with in the installation?

Are all running apps, including antivirus/anti-etc. shut down?
Are there differences in the startup items or utilities on the 3rd system? (I'm assuming they're all Windows XP?)

The problem in installation is with MS Office. And all running apps were
off. The biggest differences would have to be that the 3rd machine is an
older Sony Vaio. There was new Vaio laptop that it installed on, but we
removed all the Vaio media server junk when we bought it. This machine
however, we have simply left as is since we bought it becuase it was never
worth removing those apps.

I have all the install log if that helps at all as well.

Thanks!

Hi J.R.,

Has Windows XP on that machine been updated to SP2?

The setup log may be helpful.

Yes, the machine is running XP SP2.

Now, how should I get you my setup logs? They are too large to put onto
this post...

Thanks!

for anyone who is curious. We resolved the problem tonight. Went to
C:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\MSO

Deleted that whole folder.

and like magic it worked. Installed great. Everything works now.

Best of luck to everyone!
