Error -16999 Entourage 2008

T

Tom Banks

Error box: "The specified message is out of range." Error box explanation:
"...there was an error receiving the message."

Coinciding with my upgrade to Office 2008, Entourage 2008 often presents me
with the above error when I try to open a message. It happens about 50% of
the time, can happen on any of the four servers from which I receive mail
(at least one of which is an Exchange server), and seems to have no relation
to the size of the message or attachments. To get the mail, I need to close
the server window, reopen it, and click on the message again. Sometimes
that process needs to be repeated (and repeated).

However, the same mail is flawlessly available via another client (e.g.,
Apple Mail) and various web mails (one a part of Microsoft Exchange, one
Google, and one from my ISP. Google has no apparent trouble pulling
messages from the same servers from which I am "out of range."

This also happens whether my internet connection is via a WiFi router or via
physical Ethernet cable direct to the computer.

I'll be grateful for remedies.

Thanks,

Tom Banks

Open Accounts under Tools in the Menu bar. Select the Options tab. Do you a
setting to partially receive messages?

it's probably a corrupt database - try rebuilding. Hold down the option
key when starting Entourage - keep it held down until you see the
rebuild dialog.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I tried rebuilding the database. I
have also tried creating a new account. The error message keeps coming,
though. I notice, however, that it has not occurred when I open messages
from this news server; but I don't know what that might mean.

Hi Tom!

This still sounds to me like a problem with your Database file. To test
this you can select Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... and set up one
of your problem accounts. You might choose to do this with an IMAP or
your Exchange account so that you have messages to download.

If you don't see this problem under the new identity then your old
Database may be beyond repair if the Database Utility is not resolving
your problem. The next steps would be to move your data from the old to
the new.

Hope this helps!
