Error 1706: No valid source can be found for product DAO

Hi,
Xmas is approaching and I promised my wife to get our Christmas cards in
the mail...hel!. I am trying to open Access 2000 mdb created files with
Access 2003. I am getting the errror message "Error 1706: No valid source
can be found for product DAO Window installer". It runs this twice. It then
opens up my data base but when I try to go to Tools....Office Links and the
Merge with Microsoft Word...it is all greyed out. Not sure if these two
issues are related but I can really use some sagely advice here. I have
reinstalled Office but to no avail...same results.
