I have looked through this forum and not found an answer to the following.
I have this problem on a number of machines and must consider rolling back
from w2k SP4 to SP2 in order to fix it.
I installed W2K Pro from scratch using the Retail Upgrade version. (The
machine is part of a domain)
I patched to SP4 and current hot fixes.
I installed IE6SP1 and patches.
I installed Office 2000 SBE (Dell OEM version that came with machine)
I signed in as admin(local) and accepted EULA.
I signed in as a user1(domain user), accepted EULA and watched Office
Install. Everything is fine up to this point.
I applied SR1a as admin(local).
I signed in as admin(local) and accepted EULA.
I sign in as user1(domain) and it tries to re-install, but stops with a 1706
No Valid media found. If I place the CD in the drive, the install
"continues", popping 1706 messages a few more times.
I sign in as user2(domain user) for the first time and get the same result.
Here's the frustrating part. If I do the above steps, but install SP2
instead of SP4, I don't have any problems with Office. What is it about SP4
that breaks Office service relases/packs?
By the way, I get the same results with Office SR3.
I have lost a LOT of time (and some hair) over this.
Somebody please help!!!
