Error 1706 When installing MSI file

I am having a problem with the above error message on a
Win 2K machine and I have found the following KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;299803 which lists exactly what I am getting.

The only problem is, is that it asks me to find the
necessary reg key and if the path to the data1.msi file
is e:\mypath\data1.msi that it wants me to add the
\mypath\ into the registry. This does not exist because
the file is in the following location d:\Data1.msi .

Please could anyone advise as to how I could amend the
registry to cater for this.

I believe you need to set the path to "\" then.
