error 1706

S

Sheri

I am setting up a dozen new network workstations. They
have come loaded with Win2k SP3 and I am installing Office
2000 Pro SR-1a SP3. I am installing as administrator and
on several stations when the user logs on and accesses any
Office application they get Error 1706: No valid source
could be found for product Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1
Professional. The Windows installer cannot continue.

This is not happening to every workstation and I cannot
figure out anything I'm doing differently. The
administrator logon id can access office applications with
no error on all workstations.

Can you help me?

Hi Sheri,

This error message means that Windows Installer needs to access some file
to install something to run the program you would like to use, for example,
this application is chosen to install on first run. However, since the
installation source does not exist and the current user is not the computer
local administrator, this error occurs. To resolve this kind of issue, we
need to completely install this feature to prevent Windows Installer from
trying to access the installation point on startup. Please refer to the
following article to see if they address this problem.

If this issue persists, please let me know how you install Office onto
these computers, for example, deployed over network, administrative
installation, or directly install from the CD. This information will help
us check why this issue occurs.

I hope this information helps you work on this issue. Please check the
above information and then let me know the results. I look forward to
hearing from you.

Hi,

I am having this issue on some machines I have deployed. The machines are
running Windows XP SP1 and Office XP. The Office Suite was installed as a
"Complete" install. I have deployed about 30 machines with the same build
and only a few are having this issue. I have found that I can open
documents if I open the program first and then navigate to the document, but
if I click on the document to open I get the error.

Thanks for your help.
