Error: -17092. Pretty dumb way to communicate an error.

Why is this code so vague / general. It seems to show up for just about any reason and often blames the Account Settings:

Cannot send mail. The SMTP server does not recognize any of the authentication methods supported by Entourage. Try changing the SMTP authentication options in Account settings. . .

even for a simple email address error. Heck, even apple mail does a better job of identifying the source of a problem. I am using Entourage because it helps me tie into projects an categories. I hate it when it starts blaming things that are just fine, i.e. the Account settings. This seems to show up when I try to send group mailings.

I even tried rebuilding the DB but that gained me nothing.

Hmm

I am getting this error message also. Note that original question posted 9 months ago and no replies! Does this mean only 2 of us have the problem, or that not even the entourage/office gurus know how to deal with it? I remain hopeful.

My problem is with single emails (ie not group mailings).

I'm not seeing any of the older messages so I have no clue what has been
suggested. The news server flushes old messages so old thread will die.
Threads that go on and on get very complicated and confusing for everyone.

There is no official list for errors. What we do have is posted on the Error
Page.
