A customer of ours is trying to set up their Macs to access Exchange
mail accounts (via Entourage 2004 - 11.2.3). Accounts connect, receive
new email, synchronization takes place, LDAP queries work -- but you
can't send email.
An error -18597 message comes up, which according to Microsoft's
knowledgebase (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884987/en-us) indicates a
mismatch between the email address entered into the account setup window
and the SMTP email address listed in the account in Active Directory.
Its instructions are clear and direct -- and don't work.
Their AD admin has confirmed that there are two valid addresses for each
user; (e-mail address removed) (which is the primary, boldface name in AD),
and (e-mail address removed). I have tried both in the account
setup window; the same thing occurs in either case.
There are two Active Directory domains in use at this company, we'll
call them "Company" and "CompanyHM". "Company" is the one that is
supposed to be used in Entourage (the other won't work at all).
I have tried autoconfiguration, but it doesn't work; if I do a verify
after manually entering the config info, it says the account is
verified. Yet, one cannot send mail.
I have tested OWA from the exact same machine and aside from having to
enter the username as "company\username" in order to successfully log
in, it works and I can send mail.
It appears that the Exchange server handles mail for two different
domains (company.com and companyhm.com), though all "primary" accounts
are officially (e-mail address removed).
Any idea what is going wrong here?
Thanks,
Brian
