Error 2203: Office Professional 2007

I bought a Micosoft Office Professional Plus 2007 CD from Southland
Technology as a Grossmont Cuyamaca Community College District faculty/staff
and Work At Home (WAH) user. I am currently trying to install the software
onto my Acer Extensa 5620 laptop with Window Vista. The laptop originally
had a 3 month trial of 2007 Microsoft Office Student and Home edition from
which I uninstalled to install the professional plus edition. The
installation process has interrupted and failed with the following messages:

"Microsoft office professional plus 2007 encountered an error during setup.

Error 2203. An internal error has occurred. (C:\Windows\Installer
\12afdad.ipi -2147287035 ) Contact Microsoft Product Support Services
(PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see
C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Local\Temp\Setup000013d8\Pss10R.CHM."

And then the setup would stop working.

What is going on and why cant I install the software. Do you know on how I
can go around the problem to install the software?

Have you open the file mentioned in the error message -
C:\Users\Erik\AppData\Local\Temp\Setup000013d8\Pss10R.CHM
I would expect this to have all you need to get the error fixed.
best wishes

I am trying to install the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional and
getting the same error message - 2203 - and the file mentioned in the error
message does not exist. Can anyone help?

I am experiencing the same problem. Attempting to upgrade from Office Home &
Student 2007 trial that came preinstalled to Office Ultimate 2007 from DVD on
a Vista 64-bit machine. Same error 2203 reported here, and like the others,
the .chm file referenced in the cryptic error message does not exist in the
folder referenced.

Help, someone?

I attempted to load this software and received the same message. When I
opened my c: users file I found that appdata does not exist. What now?

I had this problem with installing Office Professional 2007 Trial in Vista
(Home Premium). It would always fail with the Error 2203 message. To resolve
it, I found where the Office Professional 2007 trial file had been
downloaded, and then right clicked on it, and chose "run as administrator".
The file was named "X12-30196.exe" and is about 400MB in size. After this,
the installation proceeded without a problem.

Also, the PSS10R.CHM file referred to above appears to be what the file
containing support contact details was called in previous versions of Office.
The equivalent file seems to be called SETUP.CHM. It doesn't give you any
information about the error though - just how to contact Microsoft and some
information about the product key.
