"Error 2203" when re-installing Office XP standard ver. 2002

I recently had to do a system restore on my laptop running Windows XP. After
running Windows update a number of times to bring me up to date I have
finally gotten Windows back to SP2 along with all the high priority updates.
Now I am trying to install my Office XP Standard, version 2002 but I get the
following error message:

"Error 2203. An internal error has occured. (C:\WINDOWS/Installer/61bd2.ipi
-2147467259 ) Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for
assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see
D:\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE10\1033\PSS10R.CHM."

When I tried to open the "PSS10R.chm" I got this error message:

"hh.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point StgCreateDocfile could not be located in the
dynamic link library ole32.dll"

After searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base I learned that "Error 2203" is
an "access denied" error caused when "incorrect permissions are set for the
folder that contains the Office XP administrative installation point" -
whatever that means.

The resolution is to "grant the System account Full Control permissions to
the folder that ocntains the administrative installation point."

I have no idea how to do this, so I searched the Knowledge base a little
more and discovered that the System account by default has full control
permissions.

So, I have no idea why my system account has incorrect permissions, and I
have no idea how to resolve the problem by returning full permissions to the
system account. Anyone have some ideas?
