Error 2894 and unable to install office 2000 on Win XP

Recently I have had problems with Word from Office 2000 on my XP.

Unable to save a document due to "insufficient memory" I first tried
increasing my virtual memory but that wasn't the problem. Then I found
that the problem was with riched20.dll, and renaming it to .old, I
tried reinstalling it from the office disk, but Word still wouldn't
work. Then I tried replacing normal.dot, but that didn't fix the
problem.

Then I went after the nimda virus. Norton antivirus didn't detect it,
but I downloaded the repair program anyway (for both NimdaA and NimdaE)
and it found no virus.

Then I figure I would just reinstall Office. I uninstalled it, then
tried to reinstall. Well, you guessed it, now it won't install. I get
the Error 2894 message, saying that Riched20.dll is no present on the
computer. So I tried extracting it to c: from the cd-rom on e:, but it
didn't help. I had to pick a location to install it to, and I tried
the root directory, the program files, and the system files, but Office
still won't install, giving me the Error 2894 message.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to Microsoft.com and download eraser2k.exe which will completely
uninstall all remnants of Office 2000 and its components. Then run a repair
on Windows XP and ensure it is patched up to date. Then reinstall Office
2000.

Thanks for replying. I think I solved it OK--the problem was I had
mishandled reinstalling the.dll program. It belonged in the systems
folder. After I did this right, everything worked fine. I had
accidentally left a copy in the root directory (an early try) which I
believe was causing things not to run properly. Incidentally, I looked
up the "eraser2k" program on the ms download site and found no such
program. What exactly were you referring to?

Thanks--I searched Microsoft's website with parameters "eraser" and
"eraser 2k" and got nothing. Strange.
