Error 3042 (Out of MS-DOS file handles) is shown when two users try to
use a form that searches the database. Both users use Access 2000; one
is on XP and another is on WIN 2000. But they can use other forms in
the database: to enter data or display it.
The form that searches the database has code behind it which has worked
fine for 3 years. I have searched groups.google and read of other
people getting Error 3042 but for the entire database. This just
happens with one form. One person did mention that Error 3042 came up
at a strange time. In his case, he found the problem to be the linking
and relinked his tables. "Normally, when there are broken links the
error message says it cannot find the file and displays the path name.
But in this case it displayed the above misleading error message
(3042)." If that is the case, then Error 3042 could mean anything.
P.S. Another user of this database has no problem using the form in
question. This is all a mystery to me.
TIA
