Error -3171 using AOL's IMAP support

I have been using Entourage to check my AOL mail for the past 5 months
or so. In the beginning, it's been working perfectly. However,
within the past two months or so, whenever it checks to see if I
received any new messages, I get network error -3171. It's quite
annoying, since the Entourage icon in the dock keeps bouncing every 5
five minutes. I thought that there was an issue with the corrupt
preferences and user data, so I deleted both. I also rebuilt the
database many times. I essentially started from scratch. Within 10
minutes the problem recurred.

I did a search online for error -3171 and I received the following
explanation: "We have limited info on this error. Errors around that
number are all Open Transport Error numbers. Entourage is just passing
them along."

From what I understand, this suggests that this is an AOL issue, so I
called AOL tech support and they said that nothing is wrong with their
servers.

If anyone has any tips or pointers on how to beat this problem, please
let me know.

Thanks in advance

Gil

I use Entourage to access the AOL mail system on a daily basis. I get
periodic transitory errors (although I've failed to note the error
number and it's playing nicely right now), but nothing permanent.

It shouldn't make a difference, but try switching your account over to
imap.cs.com and enabling SSL.
