Error 504 when testing a new email account in Outlook 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to add another account to Outlook 2007. All my existing accounts
(with my host ISP) work fine but this new one with a different ISP is causing
problems.
1) I can receive mail sent to the new email address - so the POP side of
things seems to be OK
2) when sending mail the email the message delivery fails and the following
error message is displayed:
504 <abcdef>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname

where 'abcdef' has been used to replace the name of my computer.

Having Googled this error, the concensus is that it's a problem caused by
Outlook. Can anyone suggets how I can overcome this?

Thanks for your help.
regards,
Bill

That is a problem with the message submission server. Since most email
clients operate on computers which don't have a "Fully Qualifed Domain Name"
(FQDN), a message submission server should not expect an end user client to
provide such a name. You might experiment by changing your computer name
from, 'abcdef' to 'abcdef.home', and see if that will work.

Roady,
Thanks for your reply.
Firstly I can confirm that I have been through my ISP's authentication
process for this new email address and I can send email from this account
when using my ISPs Webmail facility.
I have also tried disabling the anti-virus software (McAfee) and this did
not make any difference.
It's only if I try to send a message via Outlook that I receive a message
response from the 'System Administrator' with the 504 error message.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Bill
