Error 5550 Relaying not allowed when sending messages

Using Outlook Express 5 on iMAC. There are two identities, each with 2
accounts. One identity works perfectly and sends and receives without
problems on both accounts. The other identity receives mail on both accounts
but when trying to send mail the following error message is returned:

Impossible d'envoyer un message de votre Boîte d'envoi. Le serveur ne
reconnaît pas les destinataires.

(Impossible to send a messgae from your outbox. The server does not
recognise the destination address)

<[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: Relaying not allowed
error 5550

I have checked and rechecked the account parameters, which were recovered
from Outlook Express 4.5 when I did the upgrade to 5. I have recreated the
accounts from scratch using the same parameters from a working account on a
portable PC that the account user also has. Nothing seems to work to change
the error message.

This is a last chance attempt to find a fix. Does anyone have an idea that I
can try next?

Cheers
Ian

Make sure you are using the SMTP server belonging to the ISP to which
you are connected, not that goes along with the email account. Both of
your accounts should use the same local SMTP server.

Followups to microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac, Outlook is
not Outlook Express.
