Error 5550

Greetings -

All of this Exchange functionality aside (what a PITA), I have an older
problem, that if my group is going to use Entourage we need to solve first.

The problem is error 5550, and is a problem with IMAP.

Whenever we try to send an e-mail to someone outside of our domain (any
client ... Entourage, Mail, etc ... That is set for IMAP) we get an error
that the message cannot be sent, either the recipient cannot be idenitified
or the sender does not have the privilege to do so (sorry - I don't remember
the exact terminology).

To work around this I usually just forward the e-mail through a personal,
external server. Mail makes this easy, Entourage does not.

Can anyone help? Our Admin has not been able to solve this.

I kinow a workaround but I'm not sure you will love this... You can
enable sendmail on the mac and then use 127.0.0.1 as your SMTP
(basically, transfrom your Mac into a SMTP server.

sendmail can be setup manually (rather tricky. O'Reilly has a pretty
good article about this) or you can try "Sendmail Enabler" (look for it
on http://www.versiontracker.com/ ). You will have to make sure your
network does not block SMTP from a machine.
I had SMTP problems here and I have been using sendmail for a while now.
