Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost.

Hi,

wonder if anybody has a solution / guidance towards a solution for the
problem that I'm having.

I need to update a VBA module in the enterprise global.
The enterprise global opens up without any error either from PWA or with
in MSP.

As soon as I try to open the visual basic editor, I get the following error
"Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost."

I click OK a couple of time and the editor opens, but get the error
again if I try to open the module.

I'm clueless as to why this might be happening.

The server is a project 2007 installation and the clients are all MSP
2007 all with SP1

Thanks
Morne

I think you have what I experienced a while back and fellow MVP Gary Chefetz
sent me the following:

What's happened in this case is that the VBA stream in the e-global has
become corrupted. There's no way to fix it without recreating away the
enterprise global. As far as recreating the e-global, if you need to you can
see if you have one to restore from the archive db. If not, you can take all
of your enterprise views, tables, filters, reports (the basic ones), groups,
forms, maps and toolbars and move them to an MPP file. Next, you can run the
SQL script that creates the e-global; the scripts are located in:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Sql\Project Server\CORE\1033

The script is named eglobal.sql. Do make sure you have a backup of things
before you run scripts. Once the e-global has been rebuilt, then you can
check it out, open your MPP file where you saved all of the elements and
then use the organizer to move everything back. Do note that unlike Project
2003 where fields and calendars were stored in the e-global, they no longer
are in 2007.

---------------------------

Apparently to avoid this problem if and when you have the e-global open,
don't try to close it without having saved it first

Download Playbooks.exe and use to backup and restore all custom field data
etc from:

Excellent, remember to automatically press Ctrl+S immediately after opening
the E-Global file to prevent it happening again! Happy scheduling.

Rod,

My IS System Administrator used this procedure, and it seems to have worked;
still checking it out. But, we did have a custom base calendar defined that
is no longer there. Can you tell us how to go about restoring it so we don't
have to create it from scratch?

Thank you,

Does the procedure overwrite the archive database? If not, I assume you can
save a back-up of enterprise calendars, (and/or other enterprise objects) and
restore them after running the script.

Hello Rod,

I requested our System Administrator reaccomplish the procedure in our
PS2007 Test instance. Doing so resolved the problem. This was about our
fourth try, but given this is a new ventrue for our System Administrator, I
suspect we are overcoming a rather steep learning curve challenge. We are
fortunate to have a robust PS2007 Test instance to test in. Last Thursday
morning, we implemented the tested out procedure in PS2007 Production
environment. So far, so good. The macro problems seem to have been
resolved. Many thanks to you and Gary for sharing this procedure.

Hi Rod,

This may be a stupid question, but how can we "take all
of the enterprise views, tables, filters, reports, groups, forms, maps and
toolbars and move them to an MPP file"? Is it using Organizer?

And does it save also the Customized enterprise field?
BTW, I'm using Project Server 2003 instead.

Thank you very much for the response on this thread.

Hung
