Error Message:

Error!
The account information for the Microsoft Office Project Server WSS Admin
COM+ application is incorrect.
To set the account information, run the PSCOMPlus tool installed with
Project Server, and set the Windows account that the component should run as.
For more information, refer to the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
Installation Guide on the Microsoft Office Project Server menu (Start menu,
Programs submenu).

Steps taken:

I have run the PSCom+ utility countless times, with varying users ranging
from the ProjServ user account, it once worked with, to the local
administrator account, to eliminate lack of premissions as a cuase.

I have made sure the ProjServ user has the "Logon as a batch
job’ security right." (As per : http://ureader.com/message/1517347.aspx)

I have reset IIS, not sure if that would help at all, but thought it was
worth a shot.

Read countless group discussions, without finding the right one for me.

Server Setup Info:

SQL Server, PWA, WSS all running on the same machine.

2 seperate PWA sites running, both are having this same issue.

The server is behind a Cisco firewall (515E), but acsessable externally,
infact other than testing/setup that is the only way it is accessed as we are
just hosting for a client.

Hi Jeff,

A couple of things to check first:

1. Make sure that the WSS Service account is either an Active Directory
user account on the domain or a local computer user account on the
server.

2. Make that the account has the following account settings:
User must change password at next logon (clear checkbox)
User cannot change password (checked on)
Password never expires (checked on)

3. You may need to reset the password on this account if it was
previously created

4. You will need to add the WSS Service account in the local
Administrator group on the server.

5. When running the PSComPlus utility make clear the checkbox for
"Process this identity update" for OLAP and then click Delete All COM+
Apps.

6. When finished, run the PSComPlus utility again clear the checkbox for
"Process this identity update" for OLAP and in the WSS Administration
Identity section, in the Username box, type the following:

Domain account: <DomainName>\<WSS Service AccountName>
OR
Local account: <ServerName>\<WSS Service AccountName>

Then type the password (that was reseted anc click Create/Update COM+
Apps.

Let us know how things turn out.

Hi Rolly,

Thanks for the advice. I swear I had done all that before, but I guess the
step I missed might have been adding the ProjServ AD account to the local
admin group. Although I did try using a local ProjServ account that was in
the local admin group and that didnt work, nor did just using the
administrator account.

It may have also been just the need to delete all COM+ apps, I hadn't tried
that, the word 'all' scared me off (worried it would delete more than it
should). A note on that part though, delete all COM+ Apps deletes both the
OLAP and the WSS COM+ Apps, not at all dependant upon the check boxes. I had
the COM+ Apps window open to check out what happened after deleting all COM+
Apps.

But in the end it all seems to work well now, It even fixed an issue with
Synchronizing sites (Our client needed to do that to add a large number of
users to new sites, but it was failing), I kinda figured the two problems
were linked thats why I focused on this issue.

Thank you very much for your help!

Also, make sure that you have the 'Workstation' service started. I have not
seen the fix described here actually work (although, I am sure it may work
for some), but I can replicate this issue by stopping this service.

My only problem now, is how do I get the service from stopping in the first
place? It is set to automatic, but every so often it turns off.
