Error applying transforms

M

Mike Nachshen

For the past few months or so, saomething very strange has happened with my
office2000 products.

When I go to use MS Word, the windows installer dialogue box appears. If I
try to follow the routine, and install the the program from my CD, I get the
following message
Microsoft Word 9.0 "An error occurred and this feature is no longer
functioning properly. Please run Setup and select 'Repair..." to restore
this application

However, after about 2 minutes, MS Word then opens up.

When I tried to run the setup option from the disk, I then got the following
message

Windows Installer
"Error Applying Transforms. Verify that the specific transofrm paths are
valid."

A similar thing occured when I tried to use MS Excel, with one key exception
-- Excel will NOT open.

Any ideas out there -- I'm a little hesitant to completely uninstall
everything and then try to reinstall because if the installation doesn't work
then I'm dead in the water...

Thanks Much

Mike:

From what you typed, I'd strongly suspect a corrupted copy of the MS
Office software and/or you recently added or removed some other package from
your machine and something very MS-ish got pitched. I'd unintstall Office
and re-install, making sure that you have all of the disks and access key
codes.
While MS Office is out of the machine, I'd run a full virus scan, just
to be safe and sure.
If the problem doesn't go away, then I'd very painfully consider a
re-installation of the operating system (a repair first, complete re-install
later, just before you consider jumping off the balcony). The message
"feature is no longer available" is serious and indicates that something went
away, with or without your knowledge.
