Error changing document to Landscape

Word 2003 will not allow any landscape documents. When I change to landscape
and apply it the following message appears:
Increasing right margin causes last column to become too narrow in some
sections having unevenly spaced columns.
Does not matter if blank new document or existing. Same error occurs.
I loaded lasted service patch with no change.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Go to Format | Columns and click on the button for One, making sure it
applies to "Whole document." OK out.
