Error Connecting

Hello:

Using XP SP2,Outlook XP(2002) and a cable modem.

When I first start the computer and log on, I will open OL and click on
Send/Rec All to retrieve my email. This works fine this time around,
however when I close OL, then open it again (or log-off then log back on
again) I will click the Send/Rec All button, I then get the below error
message:

Task 'Provider Name - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80042108):
'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

I called my network provider and we check all the settings, connections and
cable modem, and he said it has to be a conflict somewhere in OL. During
the time I'm unable to retrieve my email, I still can retrieve articles in
news forums in Outlook Express and also have access to the Internet, just my
email is being affected.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I never had this problem before,
until just recently. I wonder if the culprit is Windows Update High
Priority Security patches?

By the way, I also use Outlook Express and the same problem happens there
too only when trying to retrieve emails, as mentioned above, I am able to
retrieve/send news forum articles like this one.

To get my email to work again temporally, I have to reboot the computer,
then it happens all over again.

Thanks,

MarkC

I hope the long explanation below doesn't deter anyone from replying.
Anyway, it seems now this happens at random when just opening and closing
and opening OL. But 100% of the time when I log off, then log on, then open
OL. So surely something in the connection is lost when I log off.

I'm also experiencing troubles with outlook send receive errors. I've tried
several things suggested on this site, but it still isn't working. The
problem seems to "roll" between users on my pc. One person will be able to
use email, while the other two accounts cannot.

I have not yet tried uninstalling KB920214. Can somebody please tell me how
to remove the update?

Everything worked fine until the update last Tuesday. See copy of post from
other thread below for the history (oldest post is at the bottom):

I tried first re-configuring Norton Internet Security. It didn't work, so I
uninstalled and reinstalled it. I thought it was fixed. The firewall was
"learning", but now I am back to the same old errors. I am going to try to
get some answers by reposting this in the thread: outlook 2003 send receive
error 0x80070...

Thanks, anyway.

Hi,

I believe I isolated the problem and 99% sure the culprit is the Norton
Anti-Virus Mail Scan. Are you using Norton Anti-Virus? If so, then go to
the anti-virus options and turn OFF mail checking incoming and outgoing.
Once that is done, and very important, you need to reboot the computer. See
if that works.

As with you, this all started just recently when I installed five MS
Security Updates, which does make me think could of caused a conflict with
Norton Anti-Virus Mail Scan, which was running great before hand. Bad thing
is, MS will say it's Norton's problem and vice-versa.
