Error Copying File or Folder

When I exit Outlook 2007, I have it set up to automatically back up. I am
receiving an error message, "Cannot copy ___[pst file]. Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use."

I have checked the properties and the pst is not read-only. I'm not sure
what disk would be write-protected or full as I'm backing up to the hard
disk. I've checked the add-ins; the only ones that are active are
PDFMOutlook, Outlook Backup Addin, and Microsoft Outlook Mobile Service (I
don't know what this one is).

Any suggestions on how to get the backup to actually back up the pst?

When you bring up Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+ESC) and select the Processes tab,
does it still list outlook.exe?
If you wait a few minutes after being prompted, does it work correctly then?
Can you do a manual copy of your pst-file when Outlook is closed?
If not, can you do a manual copy of your pst-file directly after
(re)starting your computer?

Do you have a handheld device cradled? That can produce this symptom and
that's probably what Outlook Mobile Service is for - a handheld device.

Also, Outlook 2007 can take longer than prior versions to close properly.
Before clicking the "Save backup" button, wait a couple of minutes to give
Outlook enough time. Does that help?

Thanks, Brian and Roady: I do not have a handheld device cradled; I
synchronize my Blackberry periodically using a USB cable. The Task Manager
does not still list outlook.exe after the program has been closed. If a wait
a few minutes after being prompted to Save Backup, I still cannot perform the
backup. I am able to copy the pst file to a DVD when Outlook is closed.
However, the properties change to read-only. As I understand it, I should be
able to drag the file to my desktop, unclick the read-only check box, and
open the file. Is this correct? Does this mean I cannot use the backup
utility?

Yes, that's correct. All the PFBACKUP utility does is copy the PST to a
folder of your choice. The added value is to prompt you on a schedule, but
there's no reason you can't keep the schedule yourself.
