Error - Database or object is read-only. (Error 3027)

I know this error appears self-explanitory. Our group is
using a database that has apparently become locked or set
to read-only. The directory and file permissions are
fine. We are running version 2002 for some of us and the
others are running 97. The database was created in 97
and not been coverted to 2002. I would appreciate any
help that you can provide.
