Error Frontpage 2003 "Form can't use email"

E

Earl Kurburski

When trying to set up form properties on "Ontargetpromotions.net" I get the
following error:

This form can not be configured to send results via e-mail. The web-site
may be located at a disk-based location, or on a server that has not been
configured to send email. Contact your system Administrator or Internet
service provider for more information.

I contacted host and they reinstalled latest ftp extensions. Most recent
email from host asks:
Is this feature support by Microsoft's Frontpage Extensions for linux? We
have no other frontpage users with this issue.

What might I be doing wrong?

That error usually occurs when setting form properties in a disc based
web, prior to publishing to the server. If you are editing a web on
your PC then ignore the error - when published (using HTTP, and *not*
FTP) the form should work provided your host has enabled email transport
in the extensions.

If you are editing the "live" site on the server (this is not the best
practice since all your mistakes are open to the public) then ask your
host to enable email in the extensions - but note that some hosts do not
allow this in order to reduce spam generation.

When I publish I have 4 choices on the Remote web site properties drop down.
I choose the first one: Frontpage or SharePoint services. What else do I
need to do to insure I am publishing using HTTP and *not* FTP?

Alright!!!! I've got it working finally. I really don't have a clue as to
why cause everything we said was right. I really do appreciate all of the
help here.

Sorry. It worked once and once only. I change something on the form and then
publish with the publish button. It pops up with the Remote Web Site
Properties window which shows that it is publishing using the Frontpage or
SharePoint Services and the location is http://www.ontargetpromotions.net. I
am going local to remote, and hitting the publish web site button and it goes
so fast I can't tell where its actually going. I change something on the
page that I can tell each time so that I can see I have the right page
loaded. I then go the site and the page which is title tablesForm.html and
enter some info. I hit submit and it takes me to a confirmation page. I then
return to the main page. Go to (e-mail address removed) and there is no email.
There's gotta be something I ain't doing right. some button I'm missing in
all of this.

Only I can seem to have this much of a problem with something so simple!!!!!

most hosts will not allow the email forms handler to send mail outside of
your domain - try an email address xxx @ ontargetpromotions.net
