error icon on record bar on the side of the form view

There is a really strange icon in the "record bar" (not sure if this is the
right name, I am talking about the record selection bar that lines the left
side of the record in form view) - a cricle with a diagonal line through it -
that seems to have appeared in what I believe is a corrupted record in my
database.

The form contains information related to clients. When I filter for the
last name, there are a couple of client who come up. If i scroll through
these clients, the program crashes.

I went to the table, and found the client id (an autonumber field) and
looked up the record by this field, and was able to pull up the record that
way, but there is an icon - called a "prohibitary sign" - it is the circle
with the diaganol line through it like a no smoking sign - in the record
selection bar. What does this mean? how does an individual record get
corrupted like this?

The database is split, front and back end.
