error in password input

When I try to open a doc protected by password with Word 2003, I can't input any character into the dialogue window. I can only paste & copy the password into it and open the document.

Furthermore, when I try to add password protection to amother doc, I can't either input character to the dialogue window. Anyone has any idea?

BTW, for above 2 situations, the digits on the number area (right of keyboard) can be input.

I have never heard of this problem before. If I had to guess, it sounds as though the keyboard is faulty of the keys have been remapped.
