error in winword.exe

I have Works Suite 2000. This week, when I try to open
Word from Works Suite, or a Word document from the History
portion of Works, or when I click the File tab on Word, I
get a message that says: winword has caused an error in
winword.exe winword will now close. Anyone know why and
what I can do about it?

Mysterious. I hate when crap like that happens.

Wild guess ... But the first thing I'd check is how many printers
you've got installed in order to see IF you have duplicate printers
(i.e., a printer with the same name but followed by "copy"). While you
can install as many printers as you'd like (whether or not they are
physically connected to your computer), Word doesn't seem to sit too
well if you have duplicate printers using the same drivers.

If that's not your problem a reinstall of Works might be in order.

The printer situation looks normal. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled both Works Suite and Word several times. Same
results. Word 2000 operates by itself (except when I try
to open the File tab) but when Works Suite and Word are
installed together, Word fails upon opening. Strange days
indeed. Thanks for the advice.

Have you uninstalled the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word? This is what
usually causes problems in Word.
