Error inserting .mix file

I am trying to create a PowerPoint 2003 presentation using pictures created
by PictureIt! 2000 in .mix format. Some pictures will open fine while others
will cause an error and I send an error report to Microsoft. Could it be a
bad filter such as fpx32.flt?

I don't have PictureIt installed, so can't test this. What happens if you
rename the files, giving them a file extension of JPG? Also, does PictureIt
have a save option to save as JPG?

This is another problem. The Cd was created by my son in California and
brought here to Milwaukee so I could create a presentation for him. I do not
have PictureIt. I have done this before with PowerPoint 2000, which I no
longer have. I suppose the CD could be bad in spots. I can import some files
and not others.

It's hard to tell whether it's the CD or not. Can you try renaming one that
doesn't work now and see if that fixes it? Or go to Windows Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options > File Types and look for MIX in the list. If you find it, what
program is set to open MIX files?

There is no program associated with a MIX file. I have tried to open with
Windows picture viewer with no luck. I tried to insert the pictures into Word
and was successful. I have a somewhat time consuming workaround. I can insert
the picture into Word and then cut and past into a slide in PowerPoint. I
tried and it works, but I have over 250 pictures to do this with.

It makes no sense to me that Word accepts the file, but PowerPoint doesn't.
Wait a minute. Now I've just checked and it looks like PowerPoint is set to
accept MIX pictures.

How are you trying to insert them? Go to Insert > Picture > Picture from File.
Browse to your CD. If the MIX files show up that will confirm it. If you
stretch the "Insert Picture" dialog box, at the very end of the list in "Files
of type" you'll see MIX.

MY Powerpoint doesn't have MIX but it does have PictureIt. When I use this
file type I can see all the pictures displayed to select. But selecting
certain pictures that Word accepts causes an error. The error occurs after
the MIX and FPX import/export filter dialog box. The same box appears in word
but has no problem

I'm not sure of what you mean when you say that your PowerPoint has PictureIt.
Do you mean that you see Pict listed? That's a Mac format. Are you using
Insert > Picture > Picture from File?

Did you try the renaming?

When I stretch the "Files Type" box it says "PictureIt!Format" without ".mix"
.. If I change some options it adds (*.mix) to the end of the "PictureIt!" I
tried renaming the file to jpg from mix and the problem remains.

Well, I don't know what to tell you then. IrfanView and the image editors I
have don't appear to recognize MIX files, but like I said, I don't have one to
test with.
