error installing AutoUpdate

Tom

I tried to check for updates from my office help menu. I was told
that AutoUpdate was not on my computer. When I tried to install
autoupdate via the office help menu, I received the following message:
"There was an error installing Microsoft AutoUpdate." Any
suggestions for getting this program to work would be greatly
appreciated.

thanks,
tom

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried it, but without success. I
continue to experience the same problem. Any other suggestions?
Thanks, I really appreciate it.

The solution to an error installing AutoUpdate is:

1. Double-click on the "Microsoft Office 2004" folder.
2. Double-click on the "Office" folder.
3. Find the file named "SAU.tar.gz" and double-click on it to
decompress it in Stuffit Expander.
4. An item called "Microsoft AutoUpdate" will appear in the folder.
(It will probably be version 1.1.0 if you check "Get Info".)
5. Drag that item to your Applications folder.
6. Run the item and click the "Check for Updates" button.
7. If it indicates that there is a "Microsoft AutoUpdate 1.1.1"
update, then install it.
8. You're done!

Microsoft has released an application called "Microsoft AutoUpdate
1.1.1", which can be manually downloaded from its site, but it's
actually just an updater. It requires that you already have 1.1.0
installed.
