Error Installing Desktop Search (HotFix KB917013)

M

Mark W. Robbins

I successfully installed Office 2007 on my WinXP-MCE machine, but now I
cannot install the Desktop Search update that Outlook keeps pestering me for.
I have successfully downloaded the file, and confirmed its size (4,867,880
bytes), but I always hit an error about half way through the install. The
error is logged in the System Log as:
Windows XP KB917013 installation failed.
Access is denied.
Oddly, I am logged in as an Admin on the machine, so there shouldn't be an
access issue... or so I thought. Has anybody else run into this problem? Or
more to the point, does anybody have a possible solution?

Any help is appreciated!

Mark, I am getting the same problem. I ran across the fix for this a couple
of days ago and thought that I had bookmarked it to come back to it
later...cannot find it now. There is an article in the knowledge base
regarding the reg hack that will cure this problem. I will post it if I ever
find it again.
