error installing office service pk 2

when i try to install office service pack 2 i get a error
message up that says
"ERROR 1328 ERROR applying patch to c:\program files\
common files\ microsoft
shared\ office 10 \ MSO.DLL it has probably been updated
by other means and can no longer be modified by this
patch. for more infomation contact patch vendor"

i want to apply this patch as my microsoft word keeps
crashing when i try to type in it or open a drop down menu
i am running windows xp

Hi Ken,

You may want to try installing the "full file" version of
the SP2 update (Mainsp2ff.msp) that is included in
oxpsp2a.exe. It can be obtained from a link in the Office
Resource Kit Journal topic, "Office XP Service Pack 2
(SP2)" -
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/journ/Oxpsp2a.htm

Once you've downloaded the oxpsp2a.exe file (~50MB), open
it to extract the contents to a temp folder, the double
click the Mainsp2ff.msp file to install the patch.
