I receive this error "there is insufficient memory or
disk space: word cannot display the requested font" any
time I try to open a Word 2002 document or try to type in
a new, blank document. I have more than enough memory on
my computer. What could be the problem? Your help is
requested.

Droog, I had the exact problem, I'm not savvy in the
language so I will tell you what I remember and in
laymen's terms. At the very least the info will get you
started.

In control panel, under sytems, you can check how much
available space there truly is. That gives you an idea,
then in the help menu (you'll have to play around here),
get information on disabling startup items. In my case, I
had a whole bunch of crap starting up as soon as I turned
on my computer. Once you diable this, you will have a file
in your programs called Disabled files. From what I
understand, all that memory you have has nothing to do
with your system being low. Mines was saying things like
critically low. I turned on my outlook express and I was
unable to add tasks to my calendar. Also, whay you may
haveis called Memory leaks, I installed Memturbo and
totally eliminated the problem.
