Error Launching Office Help Files

M

Monty

Everytime I try to launch the "See Also" section of help within Excel i get
the following error:

An Error has occured in the script on this page
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I am then prompted with a Yes or No, if I click on either nothing happens.

I have re-registered the jscript.dll & have installed version 5.6 of Windows
Script & neither of these fixed the problem.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Monty.

Hi Monty,

MS Office uses Internet Explorer to display the help files. In Internet Explorer's Tools=>Internet Options=>Advanced
turn on the choice for
[x] Disable Script Debugging
and see if that helps.

I asked a similar question about 3 posts down!
It looks like it may be due to one of the Security updates...
see this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902225/
apparently "These effects are expected and intended effects of installing
the security update and of installing Windows Server 2003 SP1."!!!!!
So we're not supposed to use our help files any more!

Hi Solotoo,

Thanks for the response however the situation that I have is a little
different. The help files are built into Excel. They are running locally 7
not on a network or web site..

Thanks for the info

Monty

I have found what is casuing the problem.

A security patch - MS05-038(KB896727) is causing the help files not to work.
If you un-install this patch the help files launch correctly

This patch has been superceeded by MS05-052 so it is safe to remove this
patch & have your PC up to date with correct patches.

Cheers

Monty.
