Error loading add-in dll at startup

I'm getting this error when I start up Outlook 2000
(9.0.0.6627) running on Windows 2000 Pro (5.00.2195) SP3:

The add-in "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee
VirusScan\scanemal.dll" could not be installed or loaded.
This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on
the Help menu. Unable to load "C:\Program
Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan...". You may be out of
memory, out of system resources, or missing a dll file.

I am not out of memory (Task Manager says 270 Meg free out
of 523 Meg total). None of the other Task Manager numbers
look concerning to me.

The DLL file exists in the indicated directory. The
file's Properties dialog says:

Type of file: Application Extension
Opens with: Unknown application
Location: C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan
Size: 244 KB (249,873 bytes)
Size on disk: 256 KB (262,144 bytes)

Check disk reports no errors on the C: drive.

I believe this problem started when I replaced McAfee's
VirusScan product with Norton's AntiVirus product. I have
NOT uninstalled McAfee VirusScan.

Microsoft Knowledge Base (MSKB) Article 257882 suggests
deleting the extend.dat file. I renamed every such file
on my system (instead of deleting it) and the problem
remained.

The above Article as well as MSKB Articles 278634 and
236136 suggest using the Add-In Manager in Outlook.
However, no add-ins show for me -- there is nothing to
delete.

I also tried renaming that DLL file to hide it. The error
message still appears at startup.

I've rebooted many, many times over the months I've been
getting this error message. But I haven't rebooted during
my troublshooting today.

I have not tried reinstalling McAfee -- and I won't. :-/

Ideas? Suggestions? Thank you! <-:

P.S. I also tried Detect and Repair -- no change. I also
tried switching from "Internet" to "Corporate or
Workgroup" (and back again) in the "Reconfigure Mail
Support" dialog -- again, no change.

You only have two choices, (1) Reload McAfee (I know what
you said below) or (2) Get the DLL file and load it on the
PC.

I had a similiar problem a while back...
