Error makes no sense - Urgent

Hi, I have a A2000 dbase giving a strange error (seems
strange in it's timing anyway). When I try to open the
dbase it gives the error of "The microsoft jet database
engine stopped the process because you and another user
are atempting to change the same data at the same time"
As far as I know this error is normally associated with
record locking etc. bt I am getting the error when trying
to open the dbase. I then have the option of 'ok'
or 'help'. After 'ok' i just end up with access open but
not the dbase..... Any ideas??
Note: the dbase was on a server with multiple users
accessing it but was never split. it is now on a single
pc and giving the same error.

Hi Sam,

Sounds like corruption. Use Compact/Repair and/or JetComp.exe
see:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;273956

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Thanks Guys, I think it may be a lost cause. I've tried
linking to the tables, compact & repair, opening
in 'safe' mode, shift key down, jetcomp.exe, read every
article i can find, pretty much everything i can think of
but have made no in-roads at all. Even running jetcomp I
get 'error in compacting' straight up.
Thanks anyways for your replies, much appreciated.
