Hi Guys!! I'm using OL 2003 and trying to move my archived Contacts to my
flash drive. When I try to do that I get the above message. Any ideas as to
what I can do to make this work? I know I could just export the contacts and
save them that way, but all the gurus here in the discussion group say not to
do it that way.....so am trying to do it the right way. THANKS for any help
you can give me!!!

It means something is holding onto that file or keeping it open to prevent
copying. Is the file located on a network share or are you synching to a
handheld perhaps? Something integrated with Outlook is holding the files or
the application open. It could even be something like PGP or Copernicus. If
you start your computer in safe mode, you should be able to copy/move the
file.

Once you do that, restart the PC. Start Outlook in safe mode: Start > Run >
outlook.exe /safe

Check your Add Ins and COMs to see what integrates with Outlook. It could be
antivirus, it could be a firewall, or any number of things.

Presumably you have archived your contacts in a pst file? Just close Outlook
and copy the file to the flash drive...

THANK YOU GORDON!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW I could count on someone here giving me
a great answer!!! I had done everything EXCEPT that pesky closing of
Outlook!! As soon as I saw your answer I knew that was what I was forgetting
to do. I don't do it very often and totally forgot that step. As soon as I
closed O/L voila---it worked like a charm!!! THANKS again---I LOVE you
guys!!
