Error Message 1608

Hi,

I am running WinXP Pro (with SP2 and all updates) on a Compaq laptop, with
Works 7.0. Some time ago I installed Office 2000 Small Biz upgrade with no
problems. All was OK. Last week my hard drive went nuts and I had to reformat
and reinstall everything from recovery CDs. But, when I tried to reinstall
Office 2000 I got error 1608 (no compliant product found), but I can see and
run Works 7.0 in the Program folder on the hard drive. Office 2000 upgrade
worked before, but not now?

Anything I can do?

Thank You.

My laptop is running Works 7.0, which I see is not listed as an compliant
product for upgrade to Office 2000. But, the Office 2000 upgrade installed
and ran on the same laptop with no problems the first time I installed it
some time ago. It installed once, but not twice? I do not have disks for
Works; it came installed when I bought the laptop.

Thanks for the reply, Mary.

There are four recovery cds. I tried to upgrade to Office 2000, first using
the program installed on C drive and then, since I do not know which recovery
disk may contain Works (the files on the disks do not have intuitive or
obvious names) I used each of the recovery disks in turn. No luck. I guess I
was lucky the first time I was able to upgrade, but not so fortunate so far.

Thanks again.
