Error Message -16999 Could not retrieve mail from the account "Acct Name". The POP server returned a

I am running Entourage X on an 14" iBook. My system is 10.3.9.

I keep receiving the error message "Could not retreive mail rom the
account "AccountName". The POP server returned an expected reply to a
command that Entourage issued. Error: -16999.

I have rebooted. I have gone to the mail server (NT mail) and deleted
10 earlierst messages on the account. I have tried checking the box
"Always use secured password" in advanced receiving options. I have
made sure that all boxes in advanced receiving options are UNchecked.

Can anyone offer any additional suggestions as to how to correct this
error? I am at a loss...

Error -16999

Solution: Try using account with secure password selected and not selected.

In the Account window, select "Click here for advanced receiving options
button".
Toggle "Always use secure password"
Try to receive mail again.
