Dave

I have tried everything in the help files to get rid of the Microsoft Visual
Basic window that tells me " Compile error in hidden module: main". The help
file tells me to open the macro and delete it How do I open a hidden file?.
This window appears every time I open or close Word, and when I try to save a
document
--it's driving me up the wall.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Dave,

This is some sort of AddIn - possibly an old version of Acrobat with a new
version of Word.

I'm sure there are several links which would help but I haven't got to grips
with them yet.

You can see some AddIns probably including the troublesome one under Tools
Templates and AddIns. Uninstall t hem all and bring them back one by one
until you find the guilty party

You can then go and delete it from wherever it says it is. Be aware though
that some of them verge on malware and come back no matter how often you
delete them. Check out the Word Startup Folder (see Tools > Options > File
Locations but by default (Documents and Settings\userid)\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup). Also what most people seem to call the "Office
Startup Folder" at (Installation Root)\Office11\Startup - where installation
root is by default (Program Files)\Microsoft Office (replace Office11 with
Office10 or Office depending on your version).
