error message: illegal operation on Publisher 2002 Deluxe

I can't do anything with Publisher 2002 Deluxe. I open it
and click on a template. That loads fine, and then I get
an illegal operation error message with the following
details:
MSPUB caused a general protection fault
in module GDI.EXE at 0014:000007b6.

I've uninstalled and installed several times, but no
