error message in access

An error message comes up in access saying "A problem occured while
microsoft access was trying to communicate with the OLE server or
ActiveX control.

Close the OLE server and restart it outside of microsoft access. then
try the original operation again in microsoft access."

I've searched online for this problem and have found pages saying its
to do with norton antivirus. I don't have norton antivirus installed
so it can't be this.

Any help would be much appreciated.
