Error Message Meaning

Proj Pro 2003, Proj Server 2003 (no service packs on server, SP3 on Proj
Pro), XP Pro environment

Having run for a couple of years, I recently started to receive this error
message when I try to edit or add an enterprise resource: "Project Server
encounteed a problem with this error code: 56. Please contact your server
administrator."

Well, I am the server administrator, so I contacted myself and frankly I was
no help at all.

In researching this I found this error means the following:

rsSecurityModifyUserAccountFailed = 56
There was a failure to modify the account details between the Project
Professional client and Project Server.

Very helpful information considering how I could see that when the changes I
tried to make failed. So, if anyone could tell me what this means...more
importantly what causes it...most importantly how to fix it, I would be
eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hello John,
Just a comment, the SPs should be applied to both the server and client so
that they are both at the same SP level. I would apply SP3 to the server and
then try.

Service packs should always match between client and server or else you can
cause some irregular behavior including data issues.

Thanks Jonathan. I'm at a client site, and have been trying to get SP2
scheduled for install for a couple of months through their change management
system. With SP3 being released, I'm back to having a request in the system
waiting for it to be scheduled. I was hoping that there was something I could
do between now and the SP being applied (or the coming of the second ice age,
which will probably arrive first).

Thanks again.
