Error message on first time use

I have just installed PS on a correctly running WSS box using the
instructions for a multiple server install. Ionly have two boxes, the WSS
server and an SQL server so I installed Analysis Services on the WSS box.
This config is identical to a pair of test servers that I did the same
install woth no probs a week or so ago. I used a AD account that has admin
privs on both servers just as in my test setup. I used a specific Project
SQL account with the appropriate privs as well.

When I try to enter the admin web page, I get this message:

Cannot connect to the configuration database.

And if I look in the event log of the WSS server, I see that it could not
connect to the WSS configuration database and it wants me to check the
connection string.

I tried to do this as closely to the test install as I could but the test
works and the production doesn't.

Any ideas?

Thanx,
Garth

During the initial install of WSS and Project Server we received the same
message plus another one "Unable to Connect to Service". We found that we
had to find the appropriate website/app pool and insure that it was using
the WSS domain account, the account has logon as service rights, and was
added to the local administrator group.

========

If all of that has been done, use IIS manager to check the "identity" used
for the WSS/Project Server website.

Check whether the websites & application pools are running or stopped.

Match the website with it's associated app pool

In the MMC right click the app pool node and insure that the identity tab is
using the domain account you've configured.

After you've done that do a "IISRESET", insure that the websites/app pools
haven't stopped, and then refresh your browser.

Thanx for the quick replies.

I changed the Identity on the MSProject app pool to be the same account that
administers WSS. This account has admin privs on both servers and is an SQL
admin as well. After doing this, a different error occurs when trying to
connect to the Project Admin site.

The following file(s) have been blocked by the administrator:
/ProjectServer/lgnps.asp

I've searched the web without much success. I no longer see the event log
entry, tho, so something has changed.

Ideas welcome.

Thanx,

Garth

Two places to look the Website & your IE browser security settings.

Look @ the ASP execution parameters for your IE/browser. I believe your
security level needs to "allow" asp to execute and then look at the Website
to insure that "scripts & executables" is allowed to launch.

Thanx again but I believe that I have hosed something up badly during the PS
installation. For example, if I enter the following site:
http://testserver/ProjectServer, I ultimately end up @
http://testserver/ProjectServer/Home/HomePage.asp. If I do the same thing
for my production server, I get "The page cannot be found". It also appears
that all .ASP files have been "blocked by the Administrator" even tho I've
added that server to my trusted sites and checked all the settings. All
other settings between the two IIS servers appears to be the same.

I'm about to start the process over and see if I get any further.

Thanx again,
Garth
