Error Message on "Look Up Outlook Contact"- Office Outlook 2007

I am trying to open up an Outlook Contact by right-clicking an address in an
email. I get an error message stating the requested operation cannot be
performed, as detailed below:

In Outlook emails (draft, sent or received) one can right click on a
name/email address to bring up a menu with selections including adding and
looking up the addressees Outlook Contact. (So you can see the Outlook
contact, check phone numbers, revise addresses, etc. before or after sending
or receiving an email) When I right click on the address, the menu comes up
but when I select "Look up Outlook Contact", I get an error message as
follows:

“Cannot perform the requested operation. The command selected is not valid
for this recipientâ€.

When I select “help†on the error message, I get the following:
This error usually occurs when you attempt to view the calendar for a user
who has one or more of the following issues:
• Is not part of your domain.
• Is not listed in the LDAP.
• Is not a member of your Exchange Server.
• Has not granted you the necessary permissions to view their calendar.
To avoid this error message, use the Open Calendar command only if the user
is using Exchange Server. If the user uses Exchange Server and you still
encounter an error message, ask the user for the appropriate permissions to
view their calendar. If they are not part of your network, you will probably
not gain access to their calendar. For more information, see Microsoft
Knowledge Based article 813603.
------
I get this error message even if I first select Add to Outlook Contacts to
add or update the Contact in Outlook. I get this error both left clicking on
the menu and when using the O shortcut.

From the error help, it looks like Outlook is reading my "Look up Outlook
Contact" command selection as an Open Calendar command. I don't know why that
would be.

This has been an ongoing problem since installation. Several of my contacts
were imported from Outlook as pst files but this problem affects all new and
old emails and contacts.

I have searched the database and another user reported the same problem and
later reported finding a solution without providing the solution. Subject:

Using Windows XP Professional v.5.1 Build 2600.xpsp-sp3-gdr-080814-1236:

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Let me just add to this that Outlook Address Book service appears to be
properly installed. The address book is selected ahd the contact folder is
marked for use as an email address book.

Problem solved. I (1) deleted and reselected the Outlook Address Book in
Tools, Account Settings, Address Books, then (2) deleted and reselected the
Contact folder as an email Address Book in Folder List, Contacts, Properties,
Outlook Address Book and (3) rebooted. Seems to work now.

Error means your Outlook Address Book is probably not connected to your
Contacts folder correctly. See if it is.

Interesting. None of the rest of us has been able to repair the Outlook
Address Book Service this way in Outlook 2007 because of a bug Microsoft
can't fix. Did it really let you remove the address book service from your
profile?

Russ, I can't swear it to you but I am pretty certain. I think I see the bug
you're referring to- the Remove Address Book button is not highlighted - but
if you select the Outlook Address Book in the list and then select "Change"
the next menu gives you a button to remove the address book. It removed it
for me.

As I said below, after that, once I deleted and reselected the Contact
Folder as an email address book in the Contacts Properties, and rebooted, it
worked fine.

I'm not going to try to test it again - I'm just glad it works. I hope this
helps others. Sorry if I have any of the terminology wrong here. Good luck.

Aha. That removes a Contacts folder from the service. It does not remove the
service.
Bug persists.
