error message on mail merge using contacts

While I'm in Word, attempting to do a mail merge using Microsoft Contacts,
when I'm prompted to choose recipient list, and I click on Contacts, I get an
error message that reads: "Either there is no default mail client or the
current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run
Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." I did check to see
if microsoft outlook is set as the default mail client and it is. But I keep
getting the error message. help!
