Error Message opening Word...Winfax conflict

I cannot open a 2000 word doc....Running XP Pro
I have had this problem before after loading
Winfax. At that time, I changed some conflicting
file in Windows and then everything was great...
for the life of me I cant recall the fix...
HELP
