I have a 98 compaq presario with windows xp. I had been using word for
several years. But when I put the computer into storage for a year the
program just dissapeared. When I click on it I get an error message stating
that it cannot run because it is not installed. I can locate it on my c drive
and it's taking up space so how can it not be installed? I of course do not
have the cd to reinstall it.

Obviously something happened and if it wants the disk, it wants the disk. I
would suggest you start looking for the CD.

It would seem that you have done something to the operating system to
wipe any information relation to the program from the registry about it
being installed. It could be that it was installed only for you as a
user and your profile got corrupted and a new one was created for you to
use the PC but that wouldn't get you permission to or the ability to use
the program as it is not installed for you to use. IF you neglected to
keep the installation CD, you are pretty much stuffed unless you aquire
another CD. What version it is and where it came from will determine
what you need to do to get a replacement CD.
