Error Message "Started Incorrectly - Restart in Safe Mode"

Suddenly after working fine for a year, I have been getting the following
error message whenever I open Outlook 2007: "Outlook failed to start
correctly last time. Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode?" No matter
how I answer that, and no matter what changes I make with the Outlook
settings, this message appears every time I start the program. All seems
fine in the program, but I would like the error message to stop. I do not
use any modem connectivity within Outlook. Any ideas here? My OS is Vista
Ultimate 64-bit.

Have you tried running scanpst.exe against the file? How big is the .pst
file? Is this an upgrade from a prior version of Office/Outlook?

Thank you, Milly. Scanpst.exe reported minor errors that need not be fixed,
but I clicked to fix anyway and (after a reboot) that solved the problem. [I
had no idea scanpst.exe existed] The original .pst file was 12,913 KB and
remained about the same after the repair. This was an upgrade, but I
installed clean when I installed Vista 64-bit a year ago. Again, thanks. Tom

I ran Office Diagnostics before the solution in the post above. It reported
1 minor problem which it repaired but gave no details. The problem remained
until I used scanpst.exe (see above post). Thanks though, Tom

Did you try using Office Diagnostics?

I spoke too soon. It worked fine at first, but when I restarted Outlook
again, the same problem occurred. I do notice multiple "outlook.exe *32"
processes active in Task Manager. When I close Outlook a new "outlook.exe
*32" is created without closing the first one.

I ran Office Diagnostics before the solution in the post above. It reported
1 minor problem which it repaired but gave no details. The problem remained
until I used scanpst.exe (see above post). Thanks though, Tom
