Dear all,
I have a series problem when I insert movie into my
PowerPoint 2000.
Here is the error message:
"PowerPoint couldn't insert a movie from the selected
file. Either the file is non-standard, or QuickTime is not
installed properly."

Here is my machine config:
Windows 2000 sp3, PowerPoint 2000,
IBM NetVista, P4 with ATI Radeon 9000 Pro(latest driver),
512MB Ram
Display setting 1280 x 1024, Hight Color (16 bit).

I can insert movie long time ago but not now. If file
already have movie inserted, I can't open it too.
I have don't most of the step posted at the Microsoft
knowledge Base, but it wouldn't work.

Please help and Many Thanks!
Stephen

Where did the movie come from? I'd imagine it's using a codec which the
MCI Media Player can't handle. PPT uses that MCI Media Player to play
multimedia files.

There is more specific information at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm Check
the list of standard codecs in section 4. Also test your movie as
described in section 3 by playing it in mplay32.exe or mplayer.exe
(depending on your version of Windows) and adjust your registry or INI
files (again, depending on your version of Windows) accordingly.

If your video is indeed a QuickTime file, PPT will only work with
versions 1 and 2 of QuickTime. See
http://www.indezine.com/products/powerpoint/ppquicktime.html for info on
that.

Dear Echo,

Those clip are normally captured from a PAL VHS tape using
Dazzle Fusion. After trimming it, I will converted it into
VCD mpeg format. I can play it with Windows Media Player
but not mplayer32.exe (it generate applicaiton error
everytime when I play with it).

Thanks
Stephen

Well, mplay32.exe is the acid test. If it won't work there, it's not
going to work in PPT, either.

Dazzle uses a proprietary codec, so that's the problem. If the Dazzle
Fusion software allows you to save the movie with a different codec, try
that.

http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm (section
4, I think) gives a list of common codecs you might try.

I'd bet the Dazzle people have run into this before, too, so you might
want to contact them and see what they suggest for making the movie
playable in PPT. If you do that and find out anything, would you mind
posting back for the benefit of other Dazzle users?
